This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of Plane's products and services, including the cloud-hosted, self-hosted, and air-gapped versions of the Service (as defined in our Terms of Service). This AUP is incorporated into and forms part of those Terms of Service.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to comply with this AUP. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you are responsible for ensuring that all Authorized Users comply with this AUP.
We may update this AUP from time to time. Changes are effective upon posting at plane.so/legals/acceptable-use-policy. For material changes, we will use reasonable efforts to notify you through the Service, email, or our website.
Capitalized terms not defined in this AUP have the meanings given to them in the Terms of Service.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these rules. You are responsible for all activity under your account, including the actions of your Authorized Users, and for all content uploaded, submitted, or transmitted through your use of the Service.
Plane reserves the right to take action against conduct that violates the spirit of this AUP, as determined by Plane in good faith and in commercially reasonable manner, even if not explicitly listed below. If something looks like a violation, it will be treated as one.
You will not, and will not permit any third party to:
(a) Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network that hosts the Service, except through security assessments expressly authorized by Plane in writing.
(b) Tamper with, reverse-engineer, or hack the Service; circumvent any security or authentication measures; or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its infrastructure, or related systems, networks, or data.
(c) Modify, disable, or compromise the integrity, performance, or availability of the Service or its underlying infrastructure.
(d) Intercept, monitor, or decrypt any transmissions to or from the servers running the Service, except as required by your normal use of the Service through Plane's published interfaces.
(e) Overwhelm or attempt to overwhelm Plane's infrastructure by imposing an unreasonably large load on systems or consuming extraordinary resources, including by:
Using automated systems such as bots, spiders, scrapers, or offline readers to send more requests to Plane's servers than a human could reasonably generate using a standard browser, except through Plane's published APIs used in accordance with the Documentation;
Exceeding documented usage limits, rate limits, or fair-use thresholds for any feature or API; or
Consuming an unreasonable amount of storage or bandwidth for purposes unrelated to legitimate use of the Service.
(f) Transmit viruses, malware, worms, ransomware, or other harmful code through the Service.
(g) Use the Service to conduct or facilitate denial-of-service attacks against any target, including the Service itself.
You will not use the Service to:
(a) Engage in unlawful activity. Use the Service in violation of any applicable local, state, federal, or international laws or regulations, including data protection, privacy, export control, anti-corruption, and sanctions laws.
(b) Infringe on the rights of others. Upload, submit, or transmit content that infringes or misappropriates any third party's intellectual property rights, privacy rights, publicity rights, or other proprietary rights.
(c) Harass, threaten, or harm. Stalk, track, monitor, bully, intimidate, or harass others; post direct threats of violence; or engage in conduct that is abusive, discriminatory, or harmful to any individual or group.
(d) Impersonate or misrepresent. Misrepresent your identity or affiliation; impersonate any person or entity; or falsely imply any sponsorship or association with Plane or any third party, including through spoofing, phishing, or manipulation of headers or identifiers.
(e) Violate others' privacy. Publish or post other people's private or confidential information without their express permission; collect, scrape, or harvest other users' personal information or account data from the Service; or infer personal or sensitive attributes about individuals using the Service's data or features.
(f) Facilitate illegal transactions. Use the Service to facilitate illegal activities, money laundering, or transactions involving goods or services prohibited by applicable law.
(g) Circumvent restrictions. Access or search any part of the Service by any means other than Plane's publicly supported interfaces, or use the Service to circumvent or violate the terms or policies of other platforms or services.
(h) Engage in competitive misuse. Use the Service to build a competing product using confidential or proprietary information obtained from the Service or to benchmark competitively, or for competitive intelligence purposes, except as expressly permitted in writing by Plane.
You are responsible for all content you upload, submit, or transmit through the Service ("Customer Data" as defined in the Terms of Service). You will not upload, submit, or otherwise make available content that:
(a) Is false, misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent.
(b) Is defamatory, libelous, obscene, or otherwise objectionable under applicable law.
(c) Promotes or incites violence, terrorism, self-harm, or illegal conduct.
(d) Contains or distributes child sexual abuse material or content that exploits minors. Plane will remove such content and report it to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
(e) Attacks, discriminates against, or promotes hatred toward individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other protected characteristics.
(f) Contains viruses, trojans, worms, or other harmful or destructive code.
(g) Has been previously removed for violating this AUP.
As set forth in Section 4.3 of the Terms of Service, you must not submit sensitive data to the Service — including special categories of personal data under GDPR, protected health information under HIPAA, or payment card data subject to PCI DSS ("Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard") — unless you have executed a separate written agreement with Plane (such as a Business Associate Agreement) that expressly permits the processing of such data.
When using Plane's AI-powered features ("AI Features"), in addition to the general rules in this AUP, you will not:
(a) Attempt to override, circumvent, or bypass the technical or safety measures built into AI Features, including through prompt injection, jailbreaking, or similar techniques.
(b) Use AI Features to generate content that violates this AUP, including content that is deceptive, harmful, discriminatory, or that infringes the rights of others.
(c) Use AI Features to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on individuals — including in areas such as employment, credit, insurance, housing, education, law enforcement, or access to essential services — without appropriate human oversight.
(d) Represent AI-generated output as human-created in contexts where such a distinction is material or required by applicable law.
(e) Use AI Features to generate, facilitate, or promote disinformation, misinformation, or deceptive content, including deepfakes, fake reviews, or fabricated communications.
(f) Use AI Features to impersonate or create unauthorized digital representations of any individual or organization.
(g) Rely on AI-generated output without independent review and verification. As stated in Section 5.3 of the Terms of Service, Plane does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any AI-generated output. You are solely responsible for how you use AI output.
Plane provides AI Features on an "as is" and "as available" basis, and disclaims all liability arising from Customer's use of AI-generated output to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
For customers using the cloud-hosted Service, Plane maintains the hosting environment. You are responsible for the security of your account credentials, the content you upload, and your Authorized Users' compliance with this AUP.
For self-hosted and air-gapped deployments, you bear additional responsibility for the security and integrity of your own infrastructure and any Customer Data stored therein. In addition to the rules above, you will not:
(a) Operate the self-hosted software in a manner that circumvents licensing restrictions, including sharing, transferring, or duplicating license keys in violation of the Terms of Service.
(b) Remove, alter, or disable license validation or telemetry mechanisms, except as provided for air-gapped deployments in the Documentation.
(c) Redistribute, sublicense, or make the self-hosted software available to third parties outside of your organization, except as expressly permitted.
(d) Fail to apply security patches or updates provided by Plane in a timely manner, where such failure creates a risk to the security of the Service or other users.
If you access the Service through Plane's APIs or integrations, you will:
(a) Comply with the rate limits, authentication requirements, and usage guidelines described in the Documentation.
(b) Not use the API to extract data for purposes unrelated to your legitimate use of the Service or in a manner that could degrade the experience for other users.
(c) Not use the API to create tools, products, or services that compete with the Service or that circumvent restrictions in the Terms of Service.
(d) Ensure that any third-party applications you integrate with the Service comply with this AUP and all applicable laws.
Plane reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any or all of the following actions if it determines that a violation of this AUP has occurred:
(a) Issue a warning and request that the violation be cured within a reasonable timeframe.
(b) Remove or disable access to content that violates this AUP.
(c) Suspend access to the Service, in whole or in part, pending investigation or cure.
(d) Terminate Customer's account or access to the Service in accordance with Section 9.4 of the Terms of Service, including immediate termination without a cure period where permitted under applicable law and where the breach is not reasonably curable.
(e) Report the violation to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities where required by law or where the violation involves illegal activity, particularly content involving the exploitation of minors.
The remedies described above are in addition to any other rights or remedies available to Plane under the Terms of Service or applicable law. A breach of this AUP may constitute a material breach of the Terms of Service for purposes of Section 9.2 (Termination for Cause) and may result in the Customer's breach being treated as an Excluded Claim under Section 11.3 (Limitation of Liability).
If any provision of this AUP is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable under applicable law, such provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if not capable of modification, shall be severed from this AUP. The remainder of this AUP shall continue in full force and effect. The parties agree that any court addressing the enforceability of any provision of this AUP shall endeavor to give maximum effect to the intent of the parties as reflected in the provision.
This AUP and all disputes arising out of or relating to it shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.
