What's new
Put Plane Agents to work on self-hosted Plane
Plane Agents are now available on self-hosted Plane. They can take on recurring tasks directly within your projects, using existing work items and project context to carry out their responsibilities.
For example, an agent can review incoming bugs for related issues, check specifications for missing requirements, or prepare a summary of outstanding release risks.
Define what your agent can do
Give each agent a responsibility, choose which projects it can access, and configure five core capabilities:
- Instructions define its responsibilities and how it approaches work.
- Skills provide reusable methods for specific tasks.
- Triggers determine when it runs, whether through assignments, mentions, work item creation, or schedules.
- Memory retains context across runs.
- Tools connect it to external applications through MCP.
Follow its progress
Each agent run has a dedicated panel showing its progress and the tools it uses. Actions taken on work items are recorded under the agent's identity, giving your team a clear record of what changed.
Guide it when needed
Agents can request input when they need guidance or a decision before proceeding. Respond directly on the work item to help them continue.
Review the output
Once a task is finished, the agent posts its findings on the work item and marks the run Completed. @ Mention it again for follow-up work.
Decide the boundaries of its work
Control which projects each agent can access, whether it's handling bug triage, spec reviews, release checks, or recurring updates.

We've updated Plane's interface with a more consistent design across work items, menus, settings, and navigation.
Here's what's new:
- Navigate menus more easily

Updated icons and table headers that remain visible as you scroll. - Enjoy a consistent look
Refined light and dark themes, along with updated workspace icons throughout Plane.
Introducing Databases
Databases has arrived in Plane. You can now create it directly inside Wiki and Pages to organize structured information in a table. Add records, define their properties, and manage everything in one place without creating a separate Page for each record.
Here's what you can do:
- Customize your columns
Add properties such as text, numbers, dates, checkboxes, dropdowns, workspace members, and linked work items. - Organize your data
Create, rename, duplicate, resize, and reorder columns. Show or hide properties to control what appears in the table. - Filter and sort records
Apply multiple filters and sort by supported properties to focus on the information you need.
For example, create a release checklist to track deliverables, owners, deadlines, and related work items, all within your release planning Page.
Track development activity right from work items
See the code behind your work without switching between Plane and your Git provider. The new Development panel brings linked branches, commits, and pull requests together on the work item detail page.
Here's how it works:
- Automatic linking
Include a work item ID in a branch name or commit message, and Plane automatically links the related development activity. - Follow code progress
See branches, their commits, and associated pull requests, including their current status. - Open the source
Jump directly to the relevant branch, commit, or pull request in your Git provider when you need more detail.
Everything is organised by repository and branch, making it easier to track implementation progress and see the code tied to each work item.
Organize work with cascading custom properties
Custom properties can now follow a hierarchy. The new Cascading property lets you define up to four levels of dependent options, where each selection determines what appears next.
For example, create a Region property with Continent → Country → State → City. Select a continent to see its countries, then a country to see its states, and a state to see its cities.
You can also:
- Build different paths
Each option can have different sub-levels. Some paths can have four levels, while others can end after one or two. - Make levels mandatory
Require specific levels to be filled based on your workflow.
Configure the property in your Work item type settings and use it across work items of that type.
Control access with Work item security
Keep sensitive work within the right group of people, without moving it to a separate private project. With Work item security, you can create Audiences that determine who can see specific work items.
Here's how it works:
- Define your audience
Choose workspace roles, project roles, or specific members. You can also include the work item's creator and assignees. - Restrict individual work items or Work item types
Apply an Audience to a single confidential work item or an entire Work item type, such as Security Incidents type.
For example, restrict all security incidents to your security team or limit a sensitive financial approval to specific reviewers. Keep everything within your existing projects, cycles, and modules while controlling who gets to see it.
Drop comments at the Page-level
Page-level comments let you comment on a Page as a whole without selecting specific text. Use them to share feedback, discuss decisions, and keep broader conversations alongside the content.
- Maintain page and inline comments together
Use the Page and Inline toggle to switch between comments about the entire page and feedback tied to specific text. Inline comments continue to work as before, while broader discussions now have a dedicated space.
- Keep the conversation in threads
Reply to any comment to keep a discussion together instead of letting it scatter. Drop an emoji reaction when a quick nod will do,@mention a teammate to pull them in, and attach an image when a screenshot or mockup adds more context.
- Find the comment you're after
Filter comments by status to show active, resolved, or both, so a busy page stays readable. Filter by user to see only what one person commented. Copy a link to any comment to send a teammate straight to it, and that link drops them right on the thread.
Subscribe to Pages, receive notifications when the page gets updated
You can now subscribe to individual Pages in Plane, making it easier to follow important documents and ongoing discussions.
Here's what you get:
- Follow important Pages
Subscribe to project briefs, specifications, release plans, or any Page you want to keep track of. - Get email notifications
Receive updates when someone comments on a subscribed Page or mentions you. - Keep subscriptions current
Subscriptions automatically end when a member leaves.
